FCC takes step toward rejecting the AT&T/T-Mobile merger

MINNEAPOLIS – On Tuesday, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) circulated a draft order that calls for a hearing of AT&T’s bid to buy T-Mobile’s wireless spectrum licenses.

Main Street Project Media Justice Program Director Steven Renderos issued the following statement: “We celebrate the FCC and Chairman Julius Genachowski for boldly acknowledging the interests of the American people and working to stop the AT&T merger with T-Mobile.” “This is a big step in the right direction for the people of Minnesota – those in the 99% -- who stand to lose jobs and pay higher prices for wireless use under the merger. The decision to call for a hearing shows the FCC agrees with us that this merger would only create more problems.”
