Digital Story Telling

Finding their voice – Sharing their story

Imagine coming home from school to an empty house, your parents gone in an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) raid, your entire world and sense of community turned upside down. . .

Latino/a youth in Wilmar, Minnesota and Marshalltown, Iowa found an outlet for sharing their experiences when The Raíces Project sponsored digital storytelling workshops in their communities. Youth created their own short, three- to five-minute digital stories from found material in their lives (such as digital video, photographs, letters, news clipping and other forms of media). The results are powerful expressions of who they are and what they want others to know and understand about their lives and the lives of their family.

Workshops were made possible by training and technical assistance provided by Third World Majority and the Raices Project. Third World Majority is a new media training and production resource center run by a collective of young women of color and allies working towards global justice and social change through grassroots organizing.
