Latino youth share personal stories at public hearings on ICE raid
Three young people from Marshalltown, Iowa, jolted by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in that community, finally had the opportunity to share their stories with the general public. The National Commission on ICE Misconduct and Violations of Fourth Amendment Rights, a labor-sponsored inquiry, held public hearings in Des Moines on April 29 and invited the young people, all participants in our Jóvenes Latin@s Cuentan Projectdigital story telling program, to share statements on how the raids disrupted their lives.
"Their testimony was powerful," said Ana Nájera Mendoza of Main Street Project. "ICE raids have a tremendous impact on families and communities.' The commission plans to release a public report on its findings.
